Quadrant 1 - Facility

The set of KPI’s focus on the facility side of the data center. Facility managers have been working on more efficient cooling strategies and better equipment for the last years. They should know a lot about energy, power, temperatures, etc. These KPI’s help to assess the current status of these efficiency improvement projects.

These KPI’s are defined:

  • DCiE is the ratio between the total amount of energy used by the data center and the amount used by its actual user: the IT department. Read more…
  • Floor usage measures the amount the raised floor that is in use, including service area, to house the IT assets. Read more…
  • Bypass is the amount of cold air that is blown into the room and returned unused. This is a waste of cooling energy. Read more…
  • Recirculation is the amount of warm air that is re-used by IT equipment. The air temperature at IT intake becomes higher than wanted and this is often solved by adding more cold air. Again, a waste of cooling energy. Read more…
